Timespace sits on the 14th fairway of The Vintage. Here's where to play, what it costs, and two week-long golf trips for a four-ball.

The Hunter Valley has three courses within a quarter-hour drive of each other, so you can play a different one every day without spending your holiday in the car. The best of them is the one you're staying on.

Green fees below are 18 holes with a cart, as listed on each club's website in October 2026. Check before you book, as clubs change prices.

The Vintage Golf Club

The pick of the Hunter, and our backyard. A Greg Norman design that has sat in Australia's top-100 rankings since it opened: #29 in Golf Australia's Top-100 Public Access Courses for 2025, and 53rd in Australian Golf Digest's 2024–25 Top 100. It has bentgrass greens and Santa Ana couch fairways.

  • The 3rd: a split-fairway par 4 of nearly 400 m, rated the hardest hole on the course.
  • The 8th: a par 3 of nearly 200 m played around water.
  • The 15th: a risk-and-reward par 4 with water down the left, often called the best hole on the course.
  • The 17th and 18th: a downhill par 3 over a pond, then a 361 m uphill par 4 home.

Green fees: $150 Monday to Thursday, $180 Friday to Sunday and public holidays, cart included. There's a driving range, short-game area, club hire and a pro shop, and the Legends Restaurant and Spike Bar for afterwards.

Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club

A longer, more open test with 60 bunkers and views across the vineyards to the Brokenback Range. Ranked in the Golf Australia and Golf Digest top 100s for 2022–23. Members have reserved times on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Hunter Valley Golf Club

The relaxed option. Wide fairways make it a good warm-up round or a twilight nine, but the 7th has what the club calls the hardest tee shot in the Hunter Valley.

Green fees: $55 midweek, $65 weekends. Cart hire is $40 extra, so book one ahead.

    About 1 hour 15 minutes up the M1. Afternoon round at Kooindah Waters near Wyong, a par 72 open to the public. Stay at Pullman Magenta Shores, which gets you a round at Magenta Shores tomorrow.

  2. Day 2Monday

    Magenta Shores · on to Newcastle

    Morning round on the Magenta Shores links between Tuggerah Lake and the ocean, ranked #34 in Australian Golf Digest's Top 100. It's a private club, so play it through the hotel's Stay and Play package. Drive about an hour to Newcastle for the night.

    Newcastle Golf Club · check in at Timespace

    Morning round at Newcastle Golf Club at Fern Bay, a top-30 course in Australia. Then about an hour inland to The Vintage. Check in, swim, then a casual dinner at NINETEEN, a few minutes away inside The Vintage.

    The Vintage Golf Club

    The round you came for, a few minutes from the house, at the midweek rate. Afternoon by the pool, then a quiet night in by the fire.

  5. Day 5Thursday

    Cypress Lakes · long lunch · Port Stephens

    Check out and play Cypress Lakes, 15 minutes away. Lunch at Esca at Bimbadgen, then about 1 hour 30 minutes to Port Stephens. Pick a driver who skipped the wine.

    Horizons Golf Resort

    A Graham Marsh and Ross Watson par 72 through the bushland at Salamander Bay. Seafood dinner in Nelson Bay.

    Start at home. Bonville takes public bookings on Mondays and Tuesdays only, so this trip begins on a Monday. Golf Australia readers have voted it Australia's favourite course seven years running. Expect around $210 for 18 holes on a Monday.

    About 2 hours south. Afternoon round on the bentgrass greens at Port Macquarie Golf Club, which takes visitor bookings online. Dinner on the river.

    About 3 hours 30 minutes down the Pacific Highway and Hunter Expressway. Check in at Timespace, then a relaxed nine at Hunter Valley Golf Club in Lovedale, 15 minutes away.

    Play the course right beside the house, at the midweek rate, then a long lunch at Esca or a casual one at NINETEEN. Last night at Timespace: a swim, then the fire on.

    Check out, play Cypress Lakes, then about 2 hours 40 minutes to Forster.

    Forster Tuncurry Golf Club

    Thirty-six holes over two courses, Forster and Tuncurry. Play one, or both if the legs allow.

    Home to Coffs Harbour

    About 2 hours 45 minutes up the Pacific Highway.
